Background

In 2006 a handful of dare-devil Sydney swimmers chose Lake Argyle to test their talents and raise money for the Royal Flying Doctors Service. The success of this fundraising adventure prompted a unanimous decision from the Ord Valley Muster Committee running under the Kununurra Chamber of Commerce & Industry to add the Lake Argyle Classic to the 2007 Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster event calendar. The inaugural event was so popular in 2007 that the muster committee decided to run the Classic as its own event at the polar end of the tourist season, and so for the first time ever the Lake Argyle Classic will be held in September.
