NATIONAL TOURISM AWARD APPLAUD
The Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster was among Australia’s top tourism operators and events at the National Tourism Awards in Melbourne last week. After winning the state award in the category of Significant Festivals and Events, the event represented Western Australia in the same category at a national level.
The National Tourism Awards were held on Friday 27 February at Crown Melbourne. Ord Valley Muster Director Kris Currow said it was an honour to represent WA and Kununurra at such a prestigious event.
“While we didn’t win the award, we were recognised as being one of the best events in the country,” said Ms Currow.
“I’m extremely proud of the Kununurra community who have helped make the Muster such a well regarded event.”
“Making it to the national awards is a great achievement and one that the entire town should be proud of.”
It is the first time the Muster has won the state award, after the Airnorth Kimberley Moon Experience won the same category three times in recent years and has now entered the Sir David Brand Hall of Fame.

AUSTRALIA HAS KUNUNURRA IN A SPIN
In one of Baz Luhrmann’s recent interviews about his much-anticipated movie, Australia, he was quoted as saying “What’s so exciting about the Kimberley is the landscape – which on the one hand is harsh, brutal and unforgiving and yet at any given moment can become the most awesome, majestic, inspiring, poetic and lyrical place to be.”
With glowing comments like these, it’s little wonder interest in next year’s Muster has been fever-pitched. May and June are the best time of year to visit the East Kimberley. The wet has made way for beautiful balmy days and crystal clear nights – perfect for travelling and exploring the countryside.
So if you’re planning on heading north for next year’s Muster, we suggest you book your holiday early. Accommodation is already tight and flights are filling fast. If you need any assistance planning your escape, contact the Kununurra Visitor Centre on 08 9168 1177 or email.
