TAKING IT TO THE STREET

For five consecutive years, Nexus Freight has literally been the roadtrain behind the Muster. Trucking everything from tables, chairs and port-a-loos along the lonely road from Perth to Kununurra to ensure each year’s two-week celebration goes off without a hitch. They are the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes to help an isolated town like Kununurra, create a world-class festival.

Given their love of the open road, it’s fitting therefore that this year’s Muster closing party has been named in their honour. The Nexus Street Party will be a celebration of everything us Aussies love most. Dress-up in your Aussie outback best, enjoy a relaxing time with family and friends, listen to live music and feast on a good selection of Kimberley tucker.

And, the best part is, it’s free! So don’t forget to mark Sunday May 24 as another Muster Must Do event on your calendar. Check the website for more information.

WONDERFUL WATER

It wasn’t all free love and hippy heaven in the sixties. Well, at least not in Kununurra, where the region’s most important asset was being built - the Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA).

In 1963, the ORIA was constructed, creating Australia’s largest man-made dam, Lake Argyle, providing water irrigation for over 117 km² of farmland and power to the local community.

The Muster’s newest tour - Dam to Land - The Ord Irrigation Story explores every aspect of the of the ORIA - from the stunning wildlife surrounds of the Ord River and Lake Argyle, to the intricate irrigation systems used by local growers to harvest the region’s agriculture.

This full-day tour includes lunch, afternoon tea, river cruise, coach tour, expert commentary from the team at the Ord Irrigation Cooperative, visits to working farms and much more.

Dam to Land will be held on Monday 11 and Tuesday 19 May. A limited number of tickets are available for $195 per person. For bookings, please contact the Kununurra Visitor Centre. or for more information, visit the website.

FISHING MAD

We’re not talking about the frustrations every angler experiences trying to bag a barra (that’s another story all together!) No, this is about a place in the far southern reaches of WA at the picturesque, Madfish Bay. According to local folklore, the bay’s tranquility is broken when the two tides meet, causing the fish to leap into the air as if in a complete state of madness! (Actually, the more I think about it, maybe this is a barra story!)

In all seriousness though, the wine coming out of Denmark this vintage is exceptional, and as such we are extremely pleased to introduce MadFish Wines as our newest platinum sponsor. Like all things West Australian, MadFish has a philosophy to produce wines that are without pretension or fuss for people who enjoy the simple pleasures of life: family, friends, food and wine. MadFish wines are noted for their pure, fresh and clean characteristics.

Who better to have on-board to celebrate this year’s Argyle Diamonds Ord Valley Muster? Cheers!

WIN A CELLAR OF MADFISH WINES
