Adventure Bash

Last year 60 vehicles took to the road in the annual East Kimberley Tours and Rotary 4WD Adventure Bash, braving grueling conditions and obscure obstacles to raise thousands of dollars for Rotary Kununurra.

On Sunday May 11 the stage is set for another exhilarating journey through the intrepid countryside. From the heart of El Questro, to the heights of the Bastion, and everything in between - you never know what obstructions the event organisers have planned for this year’s bash.

It’s the ultimate test of map reading and bribery. Not to mention cryptic clue deciphering! Create a theme, dress up (don’t forget your four-wheeled friend), pack your lunch, drinks, bribe money, map and some patience and get ready to explore the amazing surrounding landscape, Kimberley style!

Strictly limited places are available so book early by contacting the Kununurra Visitor Centre, Travelworld or Little BP. At $80 per vehicle (4WD only) it’s the most fun you’ll have on and off road.

Mirima Magic

The spectacular Mirima National Park is only two kilometres north of Kununurra – yet it feels like a world away. Covering 2,068 hectares, Mirima’s impressive rock formations and rugged cliffs create a natural amphitheatre within the heart of the National Park. This breath-taking setting is the perfect location to enjoy an evening picnic as the Kununurra District High School Choir and the Kununurra Adult Community Choir perform.

Music Under the Stars is a favourite family event that has featured on the Muster calendar since its inception. If you are yet to experience the magic of Mirima we urge you to book Wednesday May 14 in your diary now. We promise you won’t be disappointed. Tickets are $10 each (children free) and are available from the gate on the night.

Taking on the Gibb

Imagine travelling 800km through the spectacular countryside with nothing but wide-open space before you and rugged beauty around you. If that sounds like a dream come true, don’t miss the second-annual Gibb River Road Mountain Bike Challenge, presented by Cable Beach Resort and Broome Cycles.

Commencing in Derby on Monday May 12 and ending in Kununurra on Friday May 16 – you’ll ride 60-80 kilometres a day, in 20km relays. Teams of between two and six riders can register by contacting Simon Rimmer. Riders’ fees are $300 per person including overnight camping, wilderness camp fees, a riding jersey, and all meals. In addition all teams must raise $1,000 for charity to participate ($500 to Police Legacy and $500 to a registered charity of your choice). Please note, places are strictly limited. For more information visit www.thegibbchallenge.net.au.

Wild Walks

With its surrounding red cliffs glowing a burnished gold, dawn in and around Kununurra is an experience not to be missed. If you’re an avid photographer, nature lover or just an early-morning riser then the Muster’s newest event - Wild Walks is for you.

From 5.30am to 7.30am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the Muster you can join an experienced guide for a 3 – 5km walk to the hidden gems surrounding the town. There are occasional steep climbs and descents through rugged terrain, so these walks are not for the faint-hearted – however witnessing nature as it comes to life in the early morning make the effort worth the reward.

Contact the Visitor Centre on 08 9168 2598 for more information.
